First Edition of the fabled folk tale as retold by CS Evans. A clean crisp near fine book with the original, scarce, near fine dust jacket. The book is in extraordinary condition considering many children's books are usually found well loved and read. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Arthur Rackham with tipped in color frontispiece and silhouette illustrations including several in black, pink and olive.

Book Near Fine with publisher's red and yellow pictorial covers, cloth spines lettered in black, illustrated green endpapers, little wear to boards and edges, binding and hinges tight, slightest hint of a separation starting in gutter between pages 92 and 93 (likely a previous owner's favorite illustrations), end papers are clean and there are no bookplates or other markings from previous owners.  Some staining on the frontispiece by the tissue guard which has two chips missing.  Some general age toning throughout. Dust jacket is Near Fine, staining on front top edge and one closed approximately one inch closed tear to the front cover and no notable wear to the back cover, approximate three inch closed tear running up the back bottom edge where the back cover and dust jacket flap meet. some repair work done to back of spine and dust jacket to fill small missing pieces. 

A fine example of this title with scarce dust jacket.

Book measures approximately 7 1/2 inches by 10 inches with 110 pages.
